Zambeef in management changes

ZAMBIA – Leading Zambian agro-producer and processor has announced a change in its management as the company’s two founders are once again planned to become joint heads of the company.

Carl Irwin will join Francis Grogan as joint Chief Executive Officer of the agribusiness giant with immediate effect, according to an announcement released to the London and Lusaka Stock Exchanges, where the company’s shares are listed.

Mr Grogan will continue to be responsible for the operational aspects of the business, while Mr Irwin will oversee the finance and administration aspects of the group.

The two were joint managing directors of the company from its inception 20 years ago until December 2008, when Mr Irwin moved to the position of Director of Strategy and Development.

“I am confident that Mr Irwin will further strengthen our senior management team and together with Mr Grogan will help drive the group to new heights in the coming years,” said Zambeef chairman Dr Jacob Mwanza.

“We look forward to working together to continue driving the business forward over the coming years,” said the two directors.

Zambeef Products Plc is the largest integrated agribusinesses in Zambia. The group is principally involved in the production, processing, distribution and retailing of beef, chicken, pork, milk, dairy products, eggs, edible oils, stock feed and flour.

The group also has large agricultural operations where the firm grows mainly maize, soya beans and wheat in over 25,000 hectares under irrigation in rain-fed/dry-land crops farming.

The group is also in the process of rolling out its West Africa expansion in Nigeria and Ghana, as well as developing a palm project in Zambia.

Zambeef slaughters more than 80,000 beef cattle and 6 million chickens, and processes 8 million litres of milk per year. The company has 122 retail outlets throughout the country, along with three wholesale depots.
