KCCA reopens Tuskys supermarket branch

UGANDAKampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has cleared Tuskys Supermarket, at Bwaise, a Kampala city suburb for reopening after almost a year of closure.

The supermarket was closed in July last year following an impromptu health inspection that was triggered by the discovery of rotten chicken and beef as well as expired goods on its shelves.

KCCA deputy spokesperson Robert Kalumba said they were satisfied by the level of improvement and decided to give them an opening licence with caution.

“We okayed them to reopen the branch last week but with a caution. They [Tuskys] improved their hygiene, especially in the fresh food section to the required standards and assured us [KCCA] that they will maintain it,” Mr Kalumba told Daily Monitor in an interview.

Tuskys’ advertising manager Daniel Oyesiga when contacted yesterday said they prefer to keep the matter out of media discussion.

But Tuskys chief executive officer Dan Githua told Daily Monitor’s sister newspaper Daily Nation that “the branch had closed to allow for “major reorganisation and realignment to modern business requirements”.
