TANZANIA – Tanzania Breweries Limited, the country’s oldest and largest brewer has been announced the 2017 President’s Manufacturer of the Year Award (PMAYA), having been in the position for the last three years.
Daily News reported that in addition to manufacturer of the year award, the brewery was also granted the Beverage Manufacturer Award in the Large Industries Category.
The report added that TBL was renowned for being truly Tanzanian for its use of locally-sourced brewing ingredients and award-winning local brands that are the nation’s best-loved beers.
Its merit was based on the fact that the company apart from being a top manufacturer and employer, it has invested significantly in world class manufacturing processes, its people and empowered its entire supply chain.
The awards, organized by Confederation of Tanzania Industries selects winners based on business and technological performance, environmental management, occupational health and safety and export performance.
The company was appraised for contributing to the development of Tanzania through the collection and payment of taxes, as well as community based initiatives.
“Being certified as a Top Employer enables TBL to stand out as employer of choice and the accolade validates the recognition of TBL Group’s status by the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) as one of the best employers in Tanzania,” said David Magese, TBL’s Human Resources Director.
Speaking during the event, Tanzania’s Vice President Samia Hassan Suluhu reiterated that manufacturers had the duty to increase efficiency in production to meet both local and international standards.
“For Tanzania to become an industrial nation by 2025, it is inevitable for the government, the private sector and consumers to collaborate,” she said.
TBL which produces, distributes, and sells malt beer, non-alcoholic malt beverages, and alcoholic fruit beverages in Tanzania are a subsidiary of AB InBev, which acquired its former parent company SAB Miller in 2016.
In February this year, it also scooped an award as the best practices in recycling and environmental friendly waste management at its Dar es Salaam plant.
