USA – Tyson Foods, the American convenience food provider said it was executing a voluntary recall of 3,120 pounds, or 260 cases, of breaded chicken tenderloins supplied to foodservice establishments throughout the country over possible contamination with blue and clear pieces of plastic.
The move was taken after a supplier of ingredient sent to Tyson Foods notified them of the possible contamination for the ingredient used in production of some products namely Tyson® Uncooked, Breaded, Original Chicken Tenderloins.
Tyson said the recall was limited to foodservice customers, affected products were not available for purchase in retail stores and no other Tyson Foods products were affected.
“Tyson Foods has received no reports of illnesses associated with the affected product, which was produced on May 17, 2018. U.S. Department of Agriculture has classified this as a Class II recall with a low health risk.
“Tyson Foods has identified and is working with affected foodservice customers to retrieve and/or remove all recalled products initially shipped to California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan and Minnesota,” said a statement from their website.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a statement released on Friday, June 8, that the affected products were recalled for potential contamination.
The agency raised concerns that some of the products frozen in freezes could be served and advised foodservice providers not to serve them.
However, it said that so far no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the recalled products had been reported.
Other product recalls
Tyson Foods has had other product recalls in the past, that in June 2017 when it recalled nearly 2.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat breaded chicken because of misbranding and undeclared allergens.
Another one dates 2015 when the company recalled 52,486 pounds of chicken wing products due to off-odour.
It was after customers complained indicating the product had an off-odour, linking the product consumption to mild illness.
