Fruit drinks manufacturer Tasty Time warns public against product abuse

NIGERIA – Tasty Time Nigeria Limited (TTNL), a manufacturer of fruit flavored drinks has denied support for misuse of its products, warning the public against use of some of its products for substance abuse, reported Beverage Industry news.

Following a recent arrest of some youths alleged to be involved in cultism and substance abuse, the company has come out to distance itself from what is called ‘Scoochies’.

Scoochies is one of those locally-made cocktails made by mixing gin, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice or zobo and juice from boiled marijuana.

The company said its premium Tasty Time Ready to mix Blackcurrant is not in any way associated with the infamous ‘Scoochies’.

Ife Ajayi, Tasty Time legal counsel in a statement said it does not produce alcoholic or intoxicating substances and warned the youth against using the company’s products for wrong purposes.

“The attention of Tasty Time Company has been drawn to a media campaign aimed at evoking negative perception towards one of its leading products in the market.

“During the parade of some arrested cultists in Lagos last week, police authorities had displayed Tasty Time Mix to Drink Blackcurrant product container and referred to it as ‘Scoochies’

Unregistered beverages

In 2017, the Managing Director of Tasty Time was arraigned in court over alleged manufacture of fake and unregistered products.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) accused the company of producing unregistered Tasty Time products identified as Tasty Time juice, energy drinks, Fitz Apple drink and Tasty Time mixed Orange flavoured drink.

TTNL was also alleged to have packaged and labelled the products in a manner likely to create a wrong impression that they were genuine.
