AB InBev’s Eagle Lager launches ‘Lima Nawa’ initiative to boost farmer productivity

NAMIBIA – Eagle Lager, a subsidiary of AB InBev has unveiled an initiative dubbed ‘Lima Nawa’ in the northern part of Namibia that aims at improving farmer productivity and provide a market for their yields.

The world brewer is seeking to promote production and availability of the Eagle Lager in the local market while using locally sourced raw materials in the processing, the Namibian has reported.

In collaboration with Conservation Agriculture Namibia under the ‘Smart Agriculture’ initiative, AB InBev Namibia is offering training on improved farming practices geared at increase yields per hectare.

In return for good yields, AB InBev will offer a guaranteed market for their produce, generating income and revenue for the local farmers and their communities.

Training of the farmers will include theoretical and practical lessons and will involve an expanded scope since the initiative only supports ten farmers in the pilot programme.

However, the project will incorporate more farmers if the demand for Eagle Lager increases, said the company.

Speaking to the farmers, Engela constituency councillor Jason Ndakunda said farmers needed to be agriculturally smart, which is why they should embrace the training being offered, considering the current climatic conditions.

“I also want to encourage our people to buy Eagle Lager because it is made from our own mahangu.

By buying this product, you are supporting the farmers,” he noted

AB InBev Namibia is the youngest African member of the international conglomerate Anheuser-Busch, which bought out SAB Miller and opened its doors in Namibia in 2014.

AB InBev Namibia launched a first of its kind local brew, the Eagle Lager made from local Mahangu in April this year.

The beer brand stems from the company’s commitment to brew the highest quality beer and improving the livelihoods of the Namibian farmers, retailers, entrepreneurs and communities at large.

AB InBev then noted that it takes into consideration the entire value chain for opportunities to reduce costs, limit environmental impacts and improve economic stability among suppliers and communities.

It launched its 2025 Sustainability Goals designed to positively impact communities around the world and to deliver measurable results in areas of Smart Agriculture, Circular Packaging, Climate Action and Water Stewardship.
