IFF partners France’s Aryballe on digital odor-sensing technology

USA – The International Flavors & Fragrances Inc and the digital olfaction technology based firm, Aryballe have announced a new collaborative partnership to develop odor-sensing and quality control applications.

IFF will utilize the flavor and fragrance capabilities and applications of the Grenoble, France based manufacturer of bio-inspired sensors enabling applications in digital olfaction.

The partnership will focus on the development of odor sensing and quality control applications with the goal of creating a platform for applications in the food, fragrance, cosmetics and other industries.

“Our passion for pioneering firsts is uniquely aligned with Aryballe’s approach to technology,” said IFF Chairman & CEO Andreas Fibig.

“We see exciting potentials for digital scent platforms across our business and look forward to exploring the many possibilities that this device creates for us and our customers.”

The collaboration will involve development of a digital nose that will help in understanding the aroma of food in regard to R&D.

According to the company, the technology may be able to play an important role in assessing cooking and spoilage, as well as in formula and recipe creation.

“Our partnership with IFF will enable us to accelerate our technology’s development into miniature, affordable olfaction sensors that meet the needs of their unique markets,” said Sam Guilaumeì, Aryballe CEO.

“We’re excited about the growth potential we have together.”

Speaking on the partnership, Nicolas Mirzayantz, IFF’s Divisional CEO, Scent, said: “Our innovation team is thrilled to work with Aryballe on evolving this innovative device to one that is indispensable to the F&F space.

We believe that we are only scratching the surface of its potential for our industry, its applications seem virtually limitless!”

In October last year, IFF opened new flavors plant and lab in China supplementing its existing flavors and manufacturing operations in the country.

The company became the global leader in the space when it completed the Frutarom acquisition deal last year.
