Jumia partners Pizza Hut to boost operational performance in Nigeria

NIGERIA – Jumia, leading e-commerce player in Africa, through its Food Marketplace division has entered into an on-demand pizza delivery partnership with Pizza Hut in a bid to boost operational performance and last mile delivery in Nigeria.

Tony Ozanne, chief executive at Marathon Restaurant Africa, which manages and operates Pizza Hut in Nigeria, added that the partnership will play a key role in expanding Pizza Hut’s operation in the country.

As a new entrant into the country’s fast food sector, the franchisee of Yum Restaurants International operates three physical outlets in Lagos located in Ikoyi, Ikeja City Mall and Lekki.

“Jumia’s Food marketplace has the platform and the customers. We felt that since we are new in Nigeria, we can ride on their back to get the traction we want,” he said.

“In the next five years, we are looking at expanding our footprint to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and, of course, open more outlets in Lagos.

“And as we touch these cities and towns in Nigeria, so will our partnership with Jumia’s food marketplace grow,” Mr Ozanne added.

While announcing the partnership, Guy Futi, Managing Director of Jumia’s food marketplace said;

“As the premier food delivery business in Nigeria, we are opening up our platform to enable our customers to order pizza from Pizza Hut while ensuring that it is delivered at record time.

 “Currently, our average delivery time is less than 45 minutes which is the quickest in Nigeria.

We are reinforcing our operations to further cut our average delivery time to guarantee that both food and pizza are delivered at best times to our customers while not compromising quality,” he added

The partnership will leverage on Jumia’s technology on delivering innovative, convenient and affordable online services to grow their business as they use the platform to reach more consumers.

Pizza Hut is the world’s largest pizza chain with approximately more than 17,000 fast food restaurants in over 100 countries worldwide.

On the other hand, Jumia’s marketplace is a platform present in 14 countries that connects sellers with consumers while using their logistics service to facilitate shipment and delivery of packages from sellers to consumers.
