Brown-Forman to acquire Fords Gin owner The 86 Company

USA – The American wine and spirits business, Brown-Forman Corporation has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire The 86 Company, the New-York based spirits company.

Upon completion, Brown-Forman will add Fords Gin, a premium gin to its growing portfolio.

Fords Gin is distilled in London at Thames Distillers, and is a collaboration between master distiller Charles Maxwell and Ford, using a mix of nine botanicals.

It has a base of juniper and coriander seed, steeped for 15 hours with citrus, florals and spices to create a fresh, floral spirits with elegant notes of orange blossom.

The gin is made in London through a collaboration with Thames Distillers.

As part of the deal, Ford and The 86 Company team will remain part of the brand and the transaction is expected to be completed within 30 days.

“Fords Gin is a unique brand with terrific momentum in one of the fastest growing categories in spirits,” said Lawson Whiting, President and Chief Executive Officer, Brown-Forman.

“We look forward to building Fords Gin into another iconic brand in our portfolio.”

The purchase will include the Fords Gin trademark and other assets of The 86 Company, with the transaction being subject to customary closing conditions.

Brown-Forman is an industry giant best known as the parent company of Jack Daniels.

It owns a host of whiskeys including Woodford Reserve and Old Forester as well as spirits including Herradura, el Jimador, and Finlandia.
