Beyond Meat launches ‘meatier’ version of its plant-based burger

USA – Meat alternatives company, Beyond Meat has launched new plant-based product, Meatier Beyond Burger™ featuring a meatier taste and texture to simulate that of traditional ground beef.

The new patty will be available at grocery stores nationwide, giving consumers an alternative that has marbling designed to melt and tenderize just like the animal protein equivalents.

It is made without GMOs, soy or gluten and forms part of the company’s commitment to innovation towards its vision of building the Future of Protein®.

 The Beyond Burger is made using a blend of pea, mung bean and rice proteins that offer a complete protein source, to provide a meatier taste and texture that mimics the chew and juiciness of beef.

“The new Beyond Burger is the next step in our journey toward building meat directly from plants that delivers a consumer experience indistinguishable from its animal protein equivalent,” said Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO.

Cutting edge approach for meaty burgers

The latest patty version boasts of a more neutral flavor and aroma profile, is packed with 20g of plant-based protein per 4oz patty and is said to be OK Kosher Certified.

Beyond Meat says it uses simple plant-based ingredients applied in fresh ways to build meat directly from plants.

Peas, mung bean and rice provide the protein, beets provide the meaty red hue, and coconut oil and cocoa butter provide melty marbling that creates a juicy texture.

The products are made by mixing and feeding the ingredients into a food extrusion machine that cooks the mixture while forcing it through a specially designed mechanism that uses steam, pressure, and cold water to form the product’s chicken-like texture.

It has rapidly increased its manufacturing capabilities in the recent past and claims to have clocked 27,000 different points of distribution for their products in the United States.

After purchasing a 5% stake in Beyond Meat in October 2016, Tyson Foods exited the investment in April, ahead of the company’s IPO.

The company has rolled out its products to 50 international markets, partnering with Tesco in the UK and A&W in Canada.

To meet the growing demand for plant-based products, Beyond Meat expanded its partnership with Zandbergen World’s Finest Meat to produce its own burgers in Europe.
