Guinness Nigeria launches new Guinness Smooth Stout

NIGERIA – Guinness Nigeria Plc a subsidiary of Diageo Plc, has launched Guinness Smooth stout into the market, a new addition to its portfolio.

Made from hops and roasted barley with a touch of local flavours, the company describes the drink as a blend of bitter and sweet taste. It has 5% ABV.

 “Guinness Smooth is a perfect partner for spicy foods and BBQ. The smooth refreshing taste balances the spicy heat, while the distinctive characterful flavour ensures Guinness Smooth is a beer that doesn’t get overshadowed by the food.” Said Adesina Adewole, Guinness Nigeria master brewer.

The new brand was a collaborative development by local and international Guinness master brewers who worked together to deliver an exciting beer continuing with the company’s commitment of bringing consumers flavourful beers they can enjoy at more occasions.

Dublin based brewer, Peter Simpson, who has worked with the local team said: “I love creating distinguished and exquisite beers. It has therefore been a pleasure to collaborate with the team here in Nigeria to create this beautiful beer.’’

“Bringing their vast expertise of local flavours and the Nigerian palate to my extensive experience in developing new beers, we have crafted a product that is ideal for consumers in Nigeria to appreciate as they catch up with friends.” He added.

Also speaking on the new addition to Guinness Nigeria’s portfolio, Adenike Adebola, Marketing Director, Guinness Nigeria noted that “Guinness has a long tradition of brewing extraordinary beers.”

In April this year the company launched the ‘Baileys Delight’ a light and lush cream liquor which blends the luscious taste of African honey with real dairy cream from the makers of Baileys Original Irish cream.

This had followed the launch of premium lager beer ‘Guinness Gold’ infused with crystal malt and amber malt giving it a fruity flavour in March this year.

Guinness Nigeria has been launching new products as it seeks to grow its product portfolio in the highly competitive market

The beer market in the country has been receiving new entrants from major producers marked by introduction of new products which has subsequently agitated competition in the alcoholic beverage sector.

According to a World beer consumption report 2016, Nigeria leads the top 10 biggest beer-drinking countries in Africa with an average beer consumption of 12.28 litres per year.
