NIGERIA – WACOT Rice Limited has said that it intends to increase its rice milling capacity in Nigeria to 500,000 metric tonnes per annum in the next few years in order to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported rice.
NIGERIA – Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland, led a team of the State Executive Committee members to sign an agreement with Bühler AG (“Bühler”), a leading rice-mill producer in the world, for the acquisition of 32 tons per hour rice mill.
SOUTH AFRICA – South African farmers have managed to produce 10.6 million tons of maize during the first eleven weeks of harvesting. The farmers are only 5.03 million tons shy of the 15.63 million tons projected by the Crop Estimate Committee (CEC) earlier this year.
ZAMBIA – Zambia should deregulate the agriculture sector by allowing export of surplus maize and other commodities to attract more investments into the industry, Standard Chartered Bank chief economist for Africa Razia Khan has said.
