UK – 2 Sisters Group has announced that Ranjit Singh, CEO, owner and co-founder of the company was stepping down to take up a new role as President of its parent company Boparan Holdings Limited (BHL).

The group has announced that it has kicked off the process of finding a new CEO, while Martyn Fletcher will be responsible for the operations of the business as COO until the appointment is made.

Ranjit, who served the company as CEO for 25 years, expressed his commitment in building a better business, modernising the company as well as simplifying operations.

He added that he wanted to take a broader industry leadership role and concentrate more on the issues and challenges that affect not only our business, but also the food sector in general such as Brexit, social responsibility and sustainability.

The appointment follows a food hygiene breach scandal at one of the company’s processing facilities, prompting Singh to appear before the Parliamentary committee where he promised to change the company’s processes and procedures.

Suspension of production at its Bromwich facility followed an investigation that questioned the food processor’s food standards.

As though that’s not enough, the group has had other challenges including the collapse of Russell Hume, its meat producer that entered administration due to ‘mislabelling’ concerns.

According to Charles Allen, Chairman of BHL, Ranjit had not only built a world class food business but also provided customers and consumers with great service, quality and great prices.

In his new Ranjit will explore new opportunities and at the same time help reduce debt that will enhance business growth.

“These changes are the right ones to make at a very important stage in our business’s history and they help secure strong foundations for future development and growth.

These are further major transformative steps in a journey to build a better business with a world-class leadership team,” said Ranjit.

Before the challenges, Ranjit Singh was able to build the food group to become one of the largest chicken supplier in the UK.

2 Sisters group also announced that it was selling its Goodfellas Pizza business to Nomad Foods for around US$244.3 million, with other reports that it could also be looking to sell its Donegal Catch frozen fish business.
