Sysco acquires Louisiana-based distributor, Doerle Food

USA – Sysco Corporation has announced the acquisition of the Louisiana-based distributor of food and beverages to restaurants, fast food multi-unit chains, healthcare institutions, casinos and schools at an undisclosed sum.

Doerle Food Services offers beef, pork, poultry, fish, seafood products, dry groceries, dairy products, beverages and since it was founded in 1950 in Louisiana, it has expanded its distribution channel to Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama states.

Tom Bene, Sysco’s president and chief executive officer alluded Doerle food for having a rich-long history, an independent food service distributor with a diversified customer base offering superior products and services.

Headquartered in Broussard, Louisiana, Doerle Food Services is said to be a leading Louisiana broad line distributor with approximately US$250 million in annual foodservice distribution sales.

“Doerle has a sterling reputation of providing the highest quality products, cultivating deep, long-term relationships with customers and suppliers and providing impeccable service.

We believe these principles align with Sysco’s vision of being our customers’ most valued and trusted business partner,” said Tom Bene.

He added that as part of the strategic M & A plan, Sysco was focused on finding attractive growth opportunities which complement or expand the footprint of their core business

According to the transaction, Sysco will only take over the foodservice distribution business of Doerle Food Services while the energy and marine sector will remain exclusively under Doerle.

Sysco revealed that Doerle’s executive management team will be retained to lead the foodservice distribution business.

The acquisition confirms Sysco’s commitment to creating value for our customers, associates and shareholders.

Over the past few years, Sysco made several acquisition announcements including acquisition of U.K.-based Kent Frozen Foods, Hawaii-based foodservice distributor, HFM Foodservice.

In July 2016, the company announced that it had completed a US$3.1 billion acquisition of Brakes Group, a leading foodservice distributor in the UK, France and Sweden, with additional operations in Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg.

In its fiscal year 2017 results, the company reported a 5.7% increase in sales to US$14.4billion and this acquisition presents it the opportunity to create long-term value by leveraging combined skills from Sysco and Doerle Food Services.
