Mondelez, Ferrero, Mars partner in responsible snacking scheme

USA – Confectionery giants Ferrero, Mars Wrigley Confectionery have joined Mondelez international in the ‘Be Treatwise’ scheme, an initiative aimed at enhancing responsible snacking and keep shoppers informed.

Ferrero and Mars join the likes of Mondelez by introducing the Be Treatwise label on their dairy and non-dairy confectionery products.

As part of the program, the three have embarked on redesigning labels and have established an educational website that provides information and guidelines on how to responsibly enjoy confectioneries.

To ensure success of the program, they are collaborating with parents, grandparents and health experts to get insights on role of the confectionery industry in promoting healthier diets and wellbeing.

“Chocolate has had a special place in our lives for centuries, with the first chocolate bar created right here in the UK in 1847.

Most of us know that chocolate should be enjoyed occasionally, as part of a balanced and active lifestyle but yet the public health challenge remains.

With the launch of this initiative, we want to get to the heart of the everyday realities parents face and how we can help them adopt better treating behaviour,” said Glenn Caton, northern Europe president at Mondelēz International.

The approach will support families in understanding the importance of balanced and varied diets, giving the liberty to choose from a wide variation of healthy snacks on their portfolio.

Pieraldo Oldano, CEO of Ferrero UK added that this reflects their commitment in addressing the challenges of modern society.

“From manufacturers to retailers to government, we all have a role to play in helping parents and grandparents establish better treating behaviour for their families.”

“Our three companies have come together to take further steps to address the challenge, and we hope other confectionery companies will join us so that everyone’s relationship with treats can be a more balanced one,” said David Manzini, general manager of Mars Wrigley Confectionery UK.
