Diageo grows its Tanqueray gin range with a new variant

UK – Diageo, the British multinational alcoholic beverages company has continued to expand its portfolio with a new Tanqueray gin made from Seville oranges, launched in the UK.

The new flavor was developed to pay homage to Tanqueray’s roots, when founder Charles Tanqueray used the citrus fruit in his original 1830s recipes.

The gin, made with Seville oranges, has an ABV of 41.3% and will be available as of April in both the on-trade and off-trade.

According to Diageo, the gin has a sweet and tangy profile with tangerine notes and hints of juniper and coriander, which makes for the perfect summer twist on classic serves.

“The result is incredibly exciting and we’re sure that bartenders everywhere will enjoy bringing a little bit of Seville into their customers’ lives this summer,” said Anita Robinson, Diageo Europe category director for gin.

“Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla is something really new for the world of gin and reflects our love of innovating with flavour.

We’ve matched the quality of 200 years of Tanqueray heritage with a fresh new flavour that captures the spirit of Seville in a perfectly balanced gin.”

Diageo could be embarking on the gin portfolio, which together with its tequila brands helped push its net sales, 1.7% higher to US$8.07 billion.

The Tanqueray range, launched 20 years ago, re-emerged this year in a spiced Malacca variety to complement its gin portfolio in Canada and Australia due to demand from bartenders and the public.

Diageo further expanded its portfolio in Australia this year with the launch of the first ready-to-drink version of Tanqueray and Tonic in the country.
