Kerry Group to invest in Wittstock breadcrumb factory to increase capacity

GERMANY – Food and ingredients company, Kerry Group will invest in its breadcrumb manufacturing site in Wittstock, Germany with an aim to increase both capacity and output.

According to a report by Ireland’s RTE, Kerry is adding a new crumb baking line with a warehouse extension at the facility.

The group said the investment will double the output volume at the facility to 48,000 tonnes per year and as a result of increased capacity, staffing will increase by 13%.

“Kerry’s investment in this key manufacturing site demonstrates our commitment to service customers with growing coatings needs,” said Philip O’Connor, Meat Business President at Kerry Taste & Nutrition.

“With our continuing efforts to expand our capabilities, combined with our 40 plus years of taste expertise, we are confident in our ability to meet the increasing demand for innovative coating solutions in the region.”

This will enable an expanded product portfolio for the group which operations in meal centres, appetisers and protein offerings that is, poultry, seafood, pork and even plant protein.

An expanded footprint

Kerry said the expansion will enable a faster and more efficient replenishment lead time for its customers in a demanding market.

It owns Dairy Produce Packers, makers of the popular Coleraine cheese brand, and Golden Cow in Craigavon.

In April this year, Kerry acquired a specialty flours, batters and tempuras Spanish firm, Hasenosa to expand its globally-focused taste and nutrition business.

It reported 3% growth in business volume in the first quarter boosted by acquisitions, Taste & Nutrition segment and Consumer Foods category.
