Danish beverage company launches SMA SHOTS into the Nigerian Market

NIGERIA – Spivi, Danish beverage firm has launched a new product known as SMA SHOTS into the Nigerian market.

SMA SHOTS come in two flavours i.e. strawberry flavour package in a red bottle and strong menthol flavour in a black bottle. It has a lower alcohol content and tasty, made mostly for the young crowd.

Packaged in an angelic and longer than normal bottle, it is easily noticeable with unique colours.

The Scandinavian beverage company has been exporting SMA SHOTS in several countries like Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Japan and Iceland and now Nigeria as its first African country.

Speaking during the launch of the product, Mr. Sebastian Gronskov, CEO of SMA SHOTS stated that, “We chose Nigeria as the first African country because it is such a dynamic market and the biggest in Africa.

“We wanted to make sure our brand works well in Africa and Nigeria is an ideal testing ground.’’

 Distribution of the alcoholic beverage will be undertaken by, First Bottling Limited. Its marketing push will be focusing on Lagos in bid to get a good footprint to later on roll it out to other areas.

According to Tosin Obafemi, Head of Distributors in Nigeria, “SMA SHOTS is a premium brand and it is the best in its category and they are the first to introduce a brand like this in Nigeria and we are looking at getting it across the states in the next six months.”

SMA SHOTS is Scandinavia’s most popular Shots brand and has enjoyed incredible success since it was first introduced in Denmark. Its global roll out is now underway, with China recently added to the list.

The spirit market in Nigeria comprising of whiskey, brandy and vodka is valued at US$2.84 billion according to an International Wine and Spirit Research (IWSR) report.

It is estimated to be growing at about 7% year-on-year.

Premium spirit segment which occupies about 5-10% of alcoholic beverages market is growing at much faster pace with an annual growth of 18-20%.

Imported brands account for US$500 million of the spirits market.

As per World Health Organization’s (WHO) ‘Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health’, Nigeria is estimated to have highest annual alcohol consumption in Africa. An average Nigerian consumes about 12.28 litres of alcohol per annum.
