The a2 Milk Company appoints Susan Massasso as first Chief Growth Officer

NEW ZEALAND – The a2 Milk Company has appointed its former Globla Chief Marketing Officer, Susan Massasso, to the newly created role of Chief Growth and Brand Officer.

The milk and infant formula products company announced in November 2019 that Ms Massasso would resign as Chief Marketing Officer by the end of February and will remain on the Senior Leadership Team until the end of June 2020.

The new role will encompass broad responsibilities across innovation; new product and market development; and quality and regulatory affairs.

“We are pleased she will be remaining with the Company in such an important and expanded role, Massasso will continue to lead the marketing and development of our brand as she has done so successfully over the years,” said Geoffrey Babidge, CEO of The a2 Milk Company.

She commenced her new role on 24 February 2020. The company is yet to announce a new Head of Group Marketing, who will report to Ms Massasso.

Shareef Khan, Chief Operations Officer, has been leading the technical team on an interim basis until this change and will continue to oversee the quality activities in conjunction with Ms Massasso.

At the same time, Geoffrey Babidge is also serving the position of Interim CEO following Jayne Hrdlicka decision to step down from the role in December last year. The dairy processor hopes to make an appointment before the end of FY20.

Mr. Jesse Wu, a2 Milk’s China based Non-Executive Director was also appointed to assume a direct oversight role of the a2 China business to support the China management team in executing the recently developed China investment plan.

Meanwhile, the company has also announced initiatives to support Chinese families affected by the impact of Coronavirus in China. The company has donated cash and products to affected families as well as financial aid to support research efforts.

“We are working closely with our local partner, China State Farm, on how we can assist with the distribution of our products to consumers in affected areas, and how we can best provide humanitarian assistance to Chinese citizens at this time,” Babidge says.

“We have also taken measures to ensure all our staff in China are as safe as possible and are taking the necessary precautions to reduce the chance of contracting the virus.

“With China State Farm, we are continuing to monitor the development of Coronavirus both in China and abroad and, to date, have not experienced material changes to our operations resulting from the situation.”
