JAPAN – Brown-Forman has acquired exclusive distribution rights for William Grant & Sons’ (WG&S) brands in Japan, expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
As of January 2025, Brown-Forman Japan manages the distribution of WG&S brands, including Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder, Grant’s, Hendrick’s Gin, Tullamore Dew, Sailor Jerry, and Drambuie.
The move aligns with Brown-Forman’s strategy to bolster its portfolio in key markets and establish a stronger foothold in Japan.
Eveline Albarracin, senior vice-president and managing director for APAC at Brown-Forman, said, “This partnership marks an exciting chapter for Brown-Forman Japan as we expand our portfolio and strengthen our capabilities to serve the APAC region. We are actively growing our team to support this distribution and look forward to collaborating with WG&S to bring these exceptional brands to Japanese consumers.”
Brown-Forman’s presence in Japan was solidified in 2024 with the launch of its distribution business.
The company’s existing portfolio features brands such as Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Woodford Reserve, Herradura Tequila, Chambord, Gin Mare, and Diplomático Rum.
Jason Lucas, regional managing director for North Asia at WG&S, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “We look forward to working closely with Brown-Forman Japan to grow our presence in this important market and provide our iconic spirits to consumers across the country.”
In addition to expanding its distribution capabilities, Brown-Forman announced that it has achieved its initial goal of engaging 100 percent of its direct farmers in regenerative agricultural practices, a target originally set for 2025.
This achievement reflects Brown-Forman’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability and the long-term success of its supply chain.
“Environmental sustainability is integral to our long-term strategy and success,” said Andy Battjes, director of global environmental, health, safety, and sustainability at Brown-Forman.
“This achievement marks the beginning of our ongoing efforts to maintain a sustainable supply of high-quality materials and enhance efficiency in our production processes.”
The company’s sustainability strategy is built around four key pillars: climate action, water stewardship, circular economy, and supply chain sustainability.
Brown-Forman aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2045.
Additionally, it seeks to achieve water balance in all high-risk and critical watersheds by 2030, ensure that 100 percent of its primary packaging is recyclable or reusable by the same year, and continue to promote sustainable practices across its supply chain.
