ZAMBIA – 260 Brands, Zambian leading processor of Corn and soy-based consumer products, has celebrated a significant achievement with the inauguration of Zambia’s first plant-based milk factory at their headquarters in Lusaka.
The event was attended by esteemed guests, including Honourable Chipoka Mulenga, the Minister of Commerce, Trade & Industry, and various notable international figures.
According to the company, the project marked a turning point in the journey towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly agro-processing industry through value addition.
“This accomplishment is expected to have a substantial impact on boosting the economic viability of Zambia’s agricultural sector,” the company stated.
“We are taking advantage of the potential of soybeans to contribute to the diversification of Zambia’s economy. This initiative reduces the nation’s reliance on traditional raw commodities while expanding revenue streams.”
Additionally, the company is actively working with over 6,000 farmers in Zambia to certify them as organic, with a target to reach 12,000 farmers by the end of the next harvest season.
This commitment to supporting local agriculture further underscores the company’s dedication to the Zambian community.
According to the CEO, Gaurav V, the success of 260 Brands’ pioneering project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of their partners, who share in their vision.
“While we have been fortunate to collaborate with many partners, financiers, consultants, and contractors, all of whom I deeply appreciate, there is nothing more gratifying than witnessing the realization of our hard work by an exceptional team,” he said.
“The commitment, dedication, and resilience displayed in the face of adversity and complex supply chains over the past 2+ years have been the true driving forces behind our groundbreaking success, not to mention the splendid inauguration with our partners.”
The company noted that Norfund’s investment in 260 Brands stands as a testament to the international recognition of the immense potential within Zambia’s agro-processing sector.
Furthermore, several impact partners, including Prospero, Musika, SNV, USAID, and the European Union, have played a pivotal role in bringing this ambitious project to fruition.
Meanwhile, NutraMilk, Zambia’s first plant-based milk, has already received significant recognition, winning two prestigious awards from the Zambia Association of Manufacturers in 2022, including “Product of the Year” and “New Innovative Product of the Year” at the Africa Foods Awards in Kenya.
This underscored 260 Brands’ commitment to providing a high-quality alternative to traditional dairy milk for Zambia and international markets.
