USA –  The American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP) has rolled out its 2024 report on data collection and analysis within the meat and poultry processing sector.

The report, which offers a detailed overview of industry operations, is the result of a survey conducted by AAMP in 2023, targeting 1,268 meat and poultry processors across the United States.

Of those contacted, 145 companies participated, providing insights into key industry concerns such as employee turnover, hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) findings, revenue generation, the types of animals processed, and the level of satisfaction with inspection procedures.

The survey aimed to identify areas where industry-wide educational initiatives could be most effective.

The 64-page report, authored by Abbey Davidson, an outreach specialist at AAMP, looks into critical aspects of the industry, including business structures, production protocols, and food safety standards.

According to AAMP, the data gathered from individual processing facilities often remains underutilized.

The association emphasized the potential benefits of aggregating and analyzing this information to reduce regulatory challenges and improve overall industry practices.

The survey revealed that responses were collected from 37 of the 50 U.S. states, with nearly half of the participating facilities operating for over 25 years.

Most of these establishments reported having a workforce of between 10 and 50 employees. Additionally, two-thirds of the respondents indicated that they had experienced a turnover rate of up to 25% within the past year.

The analysis also found that the majority of processing facilities fell within an annual gross revenue range of US$1 million to US$2 million, with these operations typically occupying spaces ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 square feet.
