ZAMBIA – Delta Corporation, the Zimbabwe-based associate of Anheuser-Busch (AB) InBev has said that it is finalising a transaction to acquire a controlling stake in National Breweries of Zambia.
Delta said in a statement that equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, which is also owned by AB InBev.
“The equity is being acquired from Heinrich’s Syndicate, a subsidiary of AB InBev. The transaction is subject to various regulatory approvals,” said Delta.
National Breweries of Zambia is the leading sorghum (opaque) beer producer in Zambia whose products are marketed under the Chibuku brand.
Delta also brews the Chibuku brand and has a wealth of experience in that business.
“The Board is optimistic that the Company will leverage on its over 60 years’ experience in the sorghum beer sector,” said Delta.
“This investment opportunity fits well with the Company’s multi-beverage strategy.”
AB InBev announced in May that it was considering selling its 70% majority stake in National Breweries.
At the time, AB InBev said it was undertaking a review of its strategic options relating to its investment in National Breweries, including a possible sale of its effective 70% shareholding.
