Adani Wilmar signs agreement to acquire GD Foods expanding its portfolio

INDIA – Ahmedabad-based Adani Wilmar Limited (AWL) has announced its agreement to acquire 80% of G.D. Foods Manufacturing India Private Limited, a local maker of sauces and pickles, to expand its portfolio with value-added food products.

The acquisition will be executed in two phases, with 80% of the shares acquired in the first tranche, and the remaining 20% over the next three years.

CEO and MD Angshu Mallick of Adani Wilmar said, “The acquisition of GD Foods aligns with our vision and will significantly enlarge AWL’s offerings to meet the evolving needs of Indian households.

“With eight new product categories added to our portfolio, we are laying a strong foundation to build a formidable presence in the value-added products market over time.”

AWL also stated that GD Foods is among the top three players in India’s tomato ketchup and pickles category, adding that it intends to invest further in the brand while significantly increasing the distribution reach of all products.

This acquisition will lead to the significant addition of the margin-accretive products in our portfolio,” AWL added.

Established in 1984 and Headquartered in Delhi, G.D. Foods Manufacturing India Private Limited has a wide range of products, such as sauces, jams, pickles, noodles and instant mixes.

GD Foods Vice Chairman Nitin Seth said, “For the past 40 years, we have remained committed to understanding and meeting the needs of Indian households through innovative products.

“Now, with AWL’s strength behind us, Tops products will reach many homes.”

Meanwhile, the acquisition comes after Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the consumer goods arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), completed its acquisition of packed food brand SIL, a food brand known for sauces and condiments.

The acquisition is part of RCPL’s aggressive push into India’s consumer goods market. Since its launch, the company has expanded rapidly, acquiring homegrown brands to strengthen its portfolio.

SIL’s product offerings plan to leverage RCPL’s pan-India presence, extensive distribution network, and marketing expertise.

Ajay Mariwala, Managing Director of SIL Foods, said, “We are thrilled to join forces with Reliance Consumer Products and embark on this new chapter for SIL Foods.”

“RCPL will help breathe new life into the SIL brand by expanding its reach and bringing the authentic SIL products to a broader, modern audience.”

Ketan Mody, the Chief Operating Officer of Reliance Consumer Products Limited, mentioned that the company is dedicated to creating a forward-thinking business while maintaining India’s rich cultural and culinary heritage.

He expressed that SIL Foods, known for its trusted legacy, provides a valuable opportunity to reintroduce iconic Indian flavors and products to consumers in innovative ways.
