SOUTH AFRICA – The French leader in terroir wines, AdVini has acquired the majority share in SA’s leading wine producer and exporter, Stellenbosch Vineyards set to benefit from the latter’s strong distribution network in both the local and export market, reported Fin24.
Stellenbosch Vineyards is a wine business which owns brands such as Welmoed, Arniston Bay and Versus complements AdVini’s activities and portfolio consisting of L’Avenir and Le Bonheur brands.
It is also set to benefit from tellenbosch’s established wine making facility, bottling activities and logistical centre, all providing it a strategic advantage in both SA and export markets.
“With the addition of Stellenbosch Vineyards, our South African wine offering in the premium segment is vastly becoming an enticing selection, together with international brands that meet the demand of our retail customers and consumers, in a model that is particularly respectful of the social and environmental values,” said Antoine Leccia, CEO of AdVini.
As part of the agreement, Stellenbosch will maintain a network of its customers and the deal comes after an international distribution agreement between the two companies started at the beginning of 2018, covering America, Asia, Travel Retail and world markets.
The acquisition also builds on its presence in SA, having a wine portfolio in France and a partnership with Vina Casablanca in Chile.
“AdVini is present in more than a hundred countries due to its sales network and close relationships with its customers. We, at Stellenbosch Vineyards, are all proud to be joining the AdVini family,” said Eduan Steynberg, MD of Stellenbosch Vineyards.
AdVini’s turnover in 2017 was US$296.92 million and it intends to further expand its presence in the South African wine market.
The deal which seeks to give AdVini ownership over Stellenbosch brands, also comes a year after AdVini bought a “significant” stake in South Africa’s Ken Forrester Vineyard.
