AFRICA – As part of its mission to promote agro-industry development, the African Development Bank (AfDB), a multilateral development finance institution headquartered in Côte d’Ivoire, has backed the 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit as the chief Sponsor of the event.
The Africa Food Safety Summit is scheduled to take place from July 20-22 at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
Established in the 1960s, AfDB supports economic development and social progress of countries in Africa by promoting investment of public and private capital, in projects and programmes that aim to reduce poverty and improve living conditions.
The overall Bank Group vision for Agriculture and Rural Development is to strive to become the leading development finance institution in Africa, dedicated to assisting African regional member countries in their poverty reduction efforts.
It has, over the past few years, established about 23 field and country offices across the continent, in line with its policy of decentralization aimed at taking its operations closer to its beneficiaries. There are 81 member states, including 54 in Africa which are christened as Regional Member Countries.
Representing the Bank at the Summit is Dr. Damian Ihedioha, Manager of the Agribusiness Division, Agriculture and Agro-industry Department who will cut the ribbon for the event.
Aminata Sow, AfDB’s Chief Agro-Industry Officer, will moderate a panel on “Food Safety Infrastructure & Standards Development to Enhance Trade in Africa”.
About 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit
The 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) is Africa’s premier and largest international food safety, quality management and conformity conference and exhibition.
The Summit brings together regional and global experts and stakeholders to share the latest trends in science and technology; regulations, standards and compliance; operations and sustainable adoption of food safety practices and technologies in the entire agriculture and food value chain in Africa.
Held in physical and virtual format, the Summit aims at providing the platform to boost quality, food safety and conformity in Africa and the region’s fast rising food and agriculture sector that will enhance trade in local, regional and global markets.
The 2022 edition of the Summit will be held together with the AFMASS Youth Summit – a pan-African mentorship, networking and capacity building platform for university students and young professionals and budding start-up entrepreneurs in Africa’s food and agriculture sector.
