UK – British retailer Aldi has introduced two new sustainable beers crafted from surplus bread and imperfect fruit, aimed at reducing food waste.
The beers, created under Aldi’s The Hop Foundry label, include Toast Brewing’s Another Round Session IPA and Freedom Brewing’s Misfits Summer Fruits Beer.
The Hop Foundry x Toast Brewing Another Round Session IPA is brewed using 4,000 loaves of surplus tiger bread from Aldi’s bakery section, delivering a citrusy flavor profile.
According to Aldi, this unique brewing process results in a product with a 5 percent lower carbon footprint than standard beers made entirely from malt.
Toast Brewing co-founder Louisa Ziane expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “By using Aldi’s surplus bakery bread, we’re saving a whopping three tonnes from going to waste. This beer embodies our nature-saving mission, meaning everyone can enjoy beer that’s better for the planet.”
The Hop Foundry x Freedom Brewery Misfits Summer Fruits Beer is a vegan-friendly brew made with nearly a tonne of surplus strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
With its tangy and refreshing flavor, this beer showcases Aldi’s commitment to sustainable innovation in collaboration with Freedom Brewery.
Freedom Brewery Managing Director Matt Willson commented, “Partnering with Aldi is a testament to our shared passion for sustainability. At Freedom, crafting exceptional beers has always gone hand-in-hand with caring for our planet.”
Both beers are now available in Aldi stores across the UK at £1.49 per can, providing customers with an environmentally conscious choice.
In addition to these sustainable beers, Aldi is also rolling out a limited-edition range of Christmas crisps in flavors like Black Truffle, Roast Duck with Spiced Rum, and Lobster Thermidor.
These unique flavors will be available starting November 24, priced at £1.15 for a 150g sharing bag.
