DENMARK – Alfa Laval, a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling, has opened its Innovation & Test center in Søborg, Denmark, to strengthen the company’s position within food and water sectors.

The new Innovation & Test center will develop, test and optimize the next generation of decanters as well as serve as a global knowledge hub for food and water applications.

In addition to developing high-performing, efficient and sustainable solutions the Innovation & Test center will also focus on digital solutions for decanters and using collected data for future research and development purposes.

“Today, our customers are facing different challenges; some require industrial processes to maximize the yield while minimizing the use of natural resources, others are looking for ways to refine bi-products or waste into valuable products,” says Nish Patel, President of the Food & Water Division.

“By gathering our product and application experts for food and water at one location here in Denmark we strengthen our capabilities to develop sustainable solutions which meet our customers’ current and future needs.”

The center is located at Alfa Laval’s site in Søborg – and as a first step, covering 2,000 square meters. It brings the company’s global test centers in Denmark to three. Its other facilities are located in Kolding, Aalborg and in Nakskov.

In 2017, Alfa Laval announced that it will be transforming the former decanter manufacturing site in Søborg into a global competence center for food and water applications.

Alfa Laval is a Swedish global provider of specialized products and engineering solutions based on its key technologies of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling to the food, beverages, chemicals, starch, sugar and ethanol industries.

One of the company’s latest technology is the ‘Alfa Laval CB210’ heat exchanger which combines several of the latest technological features for brazed plate heat exchangers into one single design.

According to the company, the heat exchanger promises to boost performance for a wide range of heating and cooling applications, giving customers more opportunities to increase both capacity as well as thermal efficiency.

Alfa Laval has presence in nearly 100 countries with annual sales of over SEK 40.7 billion (US$4 billion). The company has about 17 200 employees
