RUSSIA – Amber Beverage Group, a subsidiary of the alcoholic beverages producer SPI Group has announced that it set to acquire a controlling stake in Permalko for an undisclosed sum.

As part of the transaction, Amber Beverage Group will retain all of the Permalko operational management team and staff.

According to the company, the acquisition will be a significant milestone in ABG’s efforts to become a truly global company.

“Our strategy is focused on the large markets that will allow us to continue our growth plans. Currently, we have ten primary markets that we are focusing on. These include USA, Canada, Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Australia and, of course – Russia.

Having the Permalko team on board will make our position considerably stronger in this growing market,” said Seymour Ferreira, CEO of Amber Beverage Group.

Just-Drinks states that the purchase gives Amber control of more than 90% in Permalko.

Ferreira had earlier said that his company was looking to fill gaps in its portfolio, particularly Irish and Scotch whiskey.

He also said Amber had held low-level talks with cannabis companies but was not prepared to rush into the emerging cannabis beverage category.

Permalko is in the top 20 list of vodka and spirits producers in Russia and one of the leading distilleries in Perm and Perm Kray.

It exports spirits to the CIS countries, Europe, the USA and Africa, and they have successfully created markets in up-and-coming Russian regions such as Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Irkutsk and others.

Its rich portfolio has over 20 kinds of spirits including vodka, balsam and liqueurs.

On the other hand, ABV is a leading producer, distributor, logistics provider and retailer of beverages and operates internationally from its head office in Luxembourg and through its production and distribution companies in Russia, Mexico, the UK, Australia and the Baltics, its historical home.
