ANGOLA – In a significant step towards strengthening international trade relations, Angola is set to export its first batch of mixed food products to the United States of America (USA) without the burden of customs duties.
This landmark achievement was made possible through the efforts of the Angolan company Foodcare Lda, operating under the provisions of the North American Act on Growth and Opportunity for Africa (AGOA).
The official export event, as announced by the US Embassy in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, was scheduled to take place at the Foodcare Lda facilities located in the Logistics and Distribution Center of Luanda, situated in Viana, Luanda.
The initiative received crucial support from the United States government, with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding the Southern Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) Program.
This program facilitates duty-free exports of goods to the United States under the North American Law on Growth and Opportunity for Africa.
This landmark legislation will enable access to a wide array of approximately seven thousand diverse products from sub-Saharan African countries into the North American market.
This significant milestone comes on the heels of Foodcare’s participation in the “Summer Fancy Food Show” in New York last year.
The international food fair, which has been a staple in the USA for 66 years, saw Foodcare proudly representing Angola with its diverse range of locally produced products.
Founded in 2019, Foodcare has been an example of entrepreneurial success, with an initial investment of 52 million kwanzas.
The company specializes in the processing of various types of organic foods, including Muteta, Kizaca, mushrooms, peanut butter, catatu, turtulho, yam flour, tapioca starch sweet, and more.
One notable aspect of the Foodcare brand is its name, “mavu,” which means “land” in Kimbundu, one of Angola’s national languages.
The duty-free export of Angolan food products to the United States represents a significant economic opportunity for the country.
By taking advantage of AGOA’s provisions and expanding its international trade relations, Angola aims to promote economic growth, create employment opportunities, and showcase its diverse range of organic food products to a broader global audience.
The export of these products also exemplifies the positive impact of international partnerships and trade agreements, fostering cooperation between nations and providing mutually beneficial opportunities for economic development.
As Angola embarks on this historic journey of exporting duty-free food products to the United States, it marks a promising chapter in the nation’s economic growth and international trade relations.
