SPAIN – Angulas Aguinaga, a Spanish seafood company, is collaborating with a start-up, Vrave, to launch a konjac-based calamari product.
This product is set to be marketed under Angulas Aguinaga’s Aguinamar brand in Spain.
In fact, it is already available at leading supermarkets Alcampo and Carrefour, and further distribution to the UK, France, and Portugal is planned for the coming month.
Angulas Aguinaga, based in Gipuzkoa, was acquired by French private-equity firm PAI Partners in 2020, adding to its portfolio of seafood brands, including La Gula Del Norte and Krissia.
Meanwhile, Vrave, formerly Grin Grin Foods, specializes in producing various plant-based meat alternatives, including soy protein-based chorizo, meatless sausages, and fish-free cod fritters.
Ricard Puigdemont, CEO and founder of Vrave expressed enthusiasm about the joint venture, stating that this collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting relationship.
He highlighted the importance of validating the product-market fit and understanding consumer preferences in the initial phase.
Puigdemont also emphasized that both companies are committed to continuously innovating and expanding the plant-based seafood category.
In a LinkedIn post, Vrave highlighted the collaborative effort as a fusion of food innovation expertise and Angulas Aguinaga’s reputation for high-quality seafood.
According to the two companies, as the demand for plant-based options continues to rise, their partnership signals a significant step forward in reshaping the future of seafood consumption.
