AFRICA – AOAC Sub-Saharan Africa Section is from July 20-22 set to grace the Africa Food Safety Summit with their presence.

AOAC Sub-Saharan Africa is a sub-organization of the AOAC INTERNATIONAL. It is a non-profit organization based purely on the active volunteer work of scientists and like-minded stakeholders.

The Sub-Saharan Africa Section of the AOAC serves as an effective vehicle to drive the improvement of analytical competence and capabilities, as well as improving the standards and performance of food testing labs in the region.

AOAC INTERNATIONAL was established in 1884 as the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists. Later, the Association of Official Analytical Chemists name was adopted to better reflect additional safety interest areas.

At the moment, the organization’s legal name is AOAC INTERNATIONAL standing for the Association of Official Analytical Collaboration, to reflect the global nature of its impact.

Representing 46 African countries positioned south of the Sahara desert, the AOAC Sub-Saharan Africa creates an Africa-based platform where official control laboratories, regulatory authorities, industry, contract research organizations, technology providers and academia can work together to improve the standard and performance of analytical science within the region.

This platform provides a forum through which the collective knowledge, experience and capabilities of all participants will be the principle resource as well as the key driver for the improvement in laboratory standards and analytical sciences.

Through its Official Methods of Analysis (OMA) program, AOAC provides collaboratively tested and internationally recognized analytical methods for food composition, and food additives and natural contaminants composition in food.

It also has a research institute known as the AOAC Research Institute (AOAC RI) that promotes and conduct activities to help develop, improve, and validate proprietary testing methods.

In addition, its Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program (LPTP) enables laboratories to compete in the global marketplace by demonstrating and certifying that they meet the highest international standards for accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
