AFRICA – The Africa Food Safety Summit is pleased to host Owen Fraser, the President of AOAC INTERNATIONAL Sub-Saharan Africa Section, as one of the speakers at the July 20-22 Summit.

Owen has spent most of his career at world’s largest food & beverage company, Nestlé, working in different roles.

He previously served as a Senior Specialist at Nestlé Institute of Food Safety and Analytical Sciences in Switzerland. Here he worked on regulatory and scientific affairs and supported scientific managers in proactively engaging regulatory authorities globally.

He has also worked as the company’s Head of Quality Assurance Centre in Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire. Other roles at that organization have included Project Manager, Quality Assurance & Scientific Support Manager, and R & D specialist.

Owen received a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Westminster/ Imperial College/ St George’s University of London, United Kingdom.

He has initiated and led the creation of a voluntary multi-stakeholder non-profit organization contributing to the development of analytical standards and improving the quality of analytical results and testing in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This work is supported by several organizations, notably regulatory authorities (local, regional and international), manufacturing industries, contract research organizations and academic institutions.

He is currently freelancing as a Food Safety and Quality Consultant.

About 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit

The 2022 Africa Food Safety Summit in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) is Africa’s premier and largest international food safety, quality management and conformity conference and exhibition.

The Summit brings together regional and global experts and stakeholders to share the latest trends in science and technology; regulations, standards and compliance; operations and sustainable adoption of food safety practices and technologies in the entire agriculture and food value chain in Africa.

Held in physical and virtual format, the Summit aims at providing the platform to boost quality, food safety and conformity in Africa and the region’s fast rising food and agriculture sector that will enhance trade in local, regional and global markets.

The 2022 edition of the Summit will be held together with the AFMASS Youth Summit – a pan-African mentorship, networking and capacity building platform for university students and young professionals and budding start-up entrepreneurs in Africa’s food and agriculture sector.
