SOUTH AFRICA – Arbor Acres South Africa, a distributor for Aviagen, conducted a series of broiler farmer visits from April 15-24, collaborating with Broiler Consultant Henry van Dungen.
The events drew a total of 256 attendees from across the country.
The focus of the visits included effective brooding techniques, strategies for winter brooding, achieving optimal 7-day weights for better processing, updates on Avian Influenza (AI), and energy-saving measures.
The Arbor Acres South Africa team, including Technical Manager Marlie Saunders, participated alongside guest speakers Dr. Greg Celliers, a veterinarian from Eagles Pride, and Dr. Chris Travers, a broiler farmer with experience in new broiler house technologies.
Marlie Saunders praised the events, stating, “The broiler farmers’ days were highly successful. Attendees found the sessions insightful, gaining practical knowledge to enhance their farming practices. While the topics weren’t new, they offered fresh perspectives, encouraging participants to rethink their approaches to poultry farming and house design. This inspired ideas for optimizing operations and improving flock wellbeing.”
Florian Blevin, Aviagen Regional Technical Manager for SSA, emphasized Aviagen’s dedication to supporting Arbor Acres South Africa’s customers.
“Aviagen is committed to enhancing customer success by maximizing the performance and efficiency of Arbor Acres flocks. Events like these help local producers continually improve their broiler flocks’ performance. Knowledge transfer and awareness of genetic improvements are crucial for managing Arbor Acres birds. We appreciate our customers’ continued support and their role in the success of the Arbor Acres breed in South Africa.”
Gerrie Venter, Strategic Accounts & Marketing Manager at Eagles Pride, also praised the event. “The Arbor Acres Broiler Day was extremely informative, featuring expert speakers who provided valuable insights.
