EGYPT – Speciality chemicals and food ingredients supplier, Azelis, has opened a new food laboratory in Cairo, Egypt, aimed to provide innovative and technical support to the customers in the Middle East and Africa region.

Other than facilitating efficient service delivery, the state-of-the-art laboratory is set to offer regular seminars and training sessions for its customers.

While fully equipped to service various food segments, the new laboratory will primarily focus on dairy and beverages, servicing the region with new value-adding formulations.

“We are very happy to have this new application laboratory in Egypt, focusing on dairy and beverages.

“The lab is equipped with modern technology to best support our customers. We will utilize our lateral value chain and our skilled technical staff to bring new, innovative formulations to the market,” said Mattar Mattar, Country Manager, Azelis Egypt.

The new facility complements the many other Azelis Food & Nutrition laboratories across the EMEA region and worldwide, an addition to its innovation capabilities and supporting the constant drive for discovery and sustainability.

“Azelis continues to grow its presence and investments in the MEA region, and we’re proud to have this new state-of-the-art facility to improve and optimize our formulations.

“This lab is a great complement to our other Food & Nutrition laboratories in the region, and allows us to serve our customers even better,” said Patrick Finan, Azelis Food & Nutrition Market Segment Director, MEA.

With over 60 application labs around the world, each dedicated to a single market segment, Azelis is constantly working on innovative projects with customers and suppliers.

The innovative service provider recently entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Ashapura Aromas Private Limited, a leading distributor of ingredients in the flavors & fragrances market in India.

This acquisition provides Azelis with a strong F&F platform in Asia Pacific, creating a global F&F network, following its 2021 acquisitions of Vigon in the US and Quimdis in France, serving the Americas and EMEA regions respectively.

Ashapura’s extensive product portfolio strategically complements the group’s lateral value chain (LVC) in the fast-growing F&F market segment, strengthening the offering and technical expertise Azelis provides to customers.

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Mumbai, Ashapura is the leading distributor of F&F ingredients in India, representing more than 225 principals with well-established partnerships and serving over 900 customers globally through the breadth and depth of its portfolio of products.

Ashapura’s 100 plus employees will join Azelis, along with founders and owners Ajaykiran and Nayan Gudka, who will remain to lead the business post-integration. The transaction is expected to close before the end of the third quarter, after fulfilment of customary closing conditions.
