TANZANIA – Bakhresa Group, the operator of flour mills that manufacture Azam brand of wheat flours has received ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Certification for its four flour mills.
The industrial conglomerate received certifications in Quality Management System (ISO 9001: 2015), Food Safety Management System (ISO 22000: 2018), Occupation Safety and Health Management System (ISO 18001: 2007) and Environmental Management System (ISO 14001: 2015).
ISO Certification is an internationally recognized standard that recognizes the creation of products and services that are safe, reliable and of good quality.
It shows compliance with international criteria which governs production of food products at an assured quality and safety but also safeguarding occupational safety and health of its staffs and other stakeholders involved in operations.
ISO system compliance certification will the company improve productivity while minimizing errors and wastes and according to Managing Director of ACM Limited from the US, Andrew Rowe, it recognizes and emphasizes on compliance to the local existing authorities.
In Tanzania these includes Tanzania Bureau of Standards, Tanzania Food and Drug Authority, Occupation Safety and Health Authority, National Environment Management Council and other regulatory authorities to which the company is required to comply,” Rowe said.
Speaking at the event, Bakhresa Group Corporate Affairs Director, Hussein Sufian said: “We are delighted to receive these international awards for our flour mills in Buguruni, Mzizima and Kipawa, this achievement is a demonstration of our commitment towards realization of the highest standards in quality, food safety, occupational safety and health as well as environmental management.”
He hailed ISO for providing clear and systematic guidance in a bid to meet customers and other stakeholders’ requirements.
According to him, ISO compliance has increased the capacity of the company to address systematically all issues related to compliance hence facilitate its mission to consistently serve Tanzanians with affordable high quality and safe products with minimum threat to staff safety and environmental hazards.
The group operates one of the largest flour mills in Tanzania and exports its wheat flour to Kenya.
Apart from flour, its portfolio covers bakery and confectionery, packaging, bottled water, juice and has its operations spread in Tanzania Mainland & Zanzibar, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Rwanda, Burundi, Zimbabwe and in South Africa.
