BASF Aroma expands its flavor offering with new ingredients

Both ingredients are made from renewable raw materials, ensuring consistent quality.

NETHERLANDS – BASF Aroma Ingredients, a leading provider of high-quality and innovative solutions, has launched Isobionics Natural beta-Sinensal 20 and Isobionics Natural alpha-Humulene 90 in the flavor market.

According to the company, both ingredients are produced through fermentation, first within the flavour industry, using readily accessible, renewable raw materials.

This method is unaffected by weather or harvest conditions, guaranteeing consistent premium quality and dependable availability.

Steffen Götz, Vice President of Aroma Ingredients at BASF, said, “We are excited to launch Isobionic Natural beta-Sinensal 20 and Isobionic Natural alpha-Humulene 90, two high-quality, biotech-based innovations for the global flavor industry, which our customers have been requesting.

“We are looking forward to further engaging with our customers to enhance their flavor formulations with these new ingredients.”

Isobionics Natural beta-Sinensal 20 has an aldehydic, citrus (tangerine and mandarin) peel taste and odor, with marine and algae notes, at a use level of 0.1-10 ppm.

It helps highlight odor compositions with a fresh effect and taste compositions with a slightly metallic effect. It enhances juiciness and freshness in any fruit flavor, from mango to berry, as well as in all citrus varieties.

Additionally, it demonstrates strong effects in savory formulations, including fish, meat, and tomato flavors, as well as improving the organoleptic properties of orange oil products.

Isobionics Natural alpha-Humulene 90 tastes like woody cedar, piney, damp wood and sawdust with a terpineol note at 5-20 ppm use level.

The odor is dry, woody, and resinous, with notes of cedar, pine, and patchouli, along with slight hints of grapefruit and herbal aromas.

This flavor ingredient boasts high purity and is suitable for both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, particularly those featuring mango, raspberry, mint, and citrus flavors. Additionally, it is an ideal choice for hop oil applications.

Recently, the global company BASF Group released its financial report, highlighting preliminary sales of US$69.4 billion for the full year 2024, a decline from US$73.6 billion in 2023.

Analysts had anticipated the company’s EBITDA before special items to hit US$7.9 billion, which aligned with the reported figure, though it fell slightly short of BASF’s earlier forecast of US$8.0 billion.

BASF’s EBITDA before special items for 2024 reached US$7.9 billion, slightly lower than the company’s previous estimate of US$8.0 billion to US$8.6 billion.
