USA – Cargill, an American global food corporation, has named Ben Weiss as the new Sustainability Lead for its Aqua Nutrition division.
Weiss transitions from his role as Group Sustainability Manager at Regal Springs, where he has been since the beginning of 2023.
Announcing his new position on LinkedIn, Weiss reflected on hjis career and tenure, writing, “Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to support our production teams globally, as well as our sales teams in the United States and Europe. Additionally, I collaborated closely with our executive management to further Regal Springs’ commitment to responsible and sustainable farming practices.”
Weiss conveyed confidence in Regal Springs’ ongoing efforts to innovate and enhance sustainable aquaculture.
“I am confident that the team will continue to push the boundaries of best practices in aquaculture, improving the quality and sustainability of Regal Springs Tilapia,” he stated.
Weiss holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Aquaculture from the University of Stirling, funded by the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).
His career includes roles as a fish health specialist at Scottish Sea Farms and a farm site manager at Mowi Scotland. In 2019, he joined Tesco as Aquaculture Manager, further broadening his expertise in the field.
Cargill’s commitment to sustainability is also evident in its recent renewable energy initiatives.
The company has significantly expanded its renewable energy capacity by 42%, following the signing of five new wind and solar power agreements.
These projects are expected to generate an additional 300MW, nearly doubling Cargill’s current offsite renewable energy capacity to 716MW.
This expansion is a crucial step towards Cargill’s target of reducing its operational greenhouse gas emissions by 10% by 2025, compared to 2017 levels.
