Diageo-owned Lagavulin and actor Nick Offerman introduce a new whiskey brand

Diageo-owned Lagavulin and actor Nick Offerman have revealed an 11-year-old single malt matured in heavily re-charred barrels, designed to be paired with steak.

The new Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Charred Oak Cask is the third whisky to be launched as part of the Diageo-owned brand’s ongoing partnership with Parks and Recreation star Offerman, which began in 2014.

The new whisky was aged in American and European oak casks that are shaved down then heavily re-charred. It is said to be the ‘perfect pairing for well-barked, medium-rare steak’ with Offerman recommending a seared ribeye steak.

Priced at RRP US$79.99, the single malt is available to purchase for a limited time from select US alcohol retailers, Reserve Bar and Drizly, as well as select retailers in Canada, Australia, Great Britain, China and the Netherlands.

Brugal releases limited-edition expression priced US$2,800

Edrington-owned Brugal rum has released a limited-edition expression in homage of its founder, priced at US$2,800.

Named after founder Andrés Brugal, the new 41.5% ABV expression is made by blending two double-aged reserve rums with a selection of first-fill single Bourbon and oloroso Sherry casks.

The resulting liquid offers notes of roasted coffee beans, dulce de leche fudge and Dominican rum cake on the nose. The palate brings flavours of oak, vanilla bean and sweet caramel flan, alongside ripe berries, black peppercorns and sweet cloves.

This expression comes in a hand-blown crystal decanter and display cabinet inspired by the travelling cases earlier maestros used in their voyages.

Only 460 bottles of Andrés Brugal rum will be available globally, including 30 bottles in the UK and 50 in the US.
