ECUADOR – The BioMar Group has appointed Andrés Rivadulla as its new General Manager in Ecuador, following Danny Vélez’s decision to retire on May 31 after serving since 2017.
Vélez has a long history with the company, starting as Operations Manager at Alimentsa in 1991 and later becoming Vice General Manager in 1993.
Rivadulla, who joined BioMar in 2018 after leaving Bic, has been serving as Finance Director.
His tenure at BioMar has seen him take on responsibilities beyond his initial role, demonstrating considerable skill and comprehensive oversight.
Henrik Aarestrup, VP LATAM Shrimp & Hatchery at BioMar, expresses confidence in Rivadulla’s capability to lead BioMar Ecuador’s ongoing development.
When BioMar acquired Alimentsa, Vélez was promoted to the first General Manager of BioMar Ecuador.
For the next 12 months, Vélez will continue to support BioMar Ecuador as a Special Counselor to both the company and its Board of Directors, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in leadership.
This leadership change comes on the heels of BioMar reporting its best quarter in the company’s history.
The first quarter of the year saw an EBITDA exceeding DKK 310 million (US$44.6M), driven by higher margins due to an improved product mix and enhanced commercial strategies.
Despite an 8% drop in sales volume compared to the same period last year, BioMar is experiencing significant growth in the shrimp feed sector, which is compensating for declines in the salmon feed market.
The reduction in sales volume is primarily due to biological challenges across various markets and BioMar’s strategic shift towards establishing long-term client partnerships focused on value creation rather than expanding market share.
BioMar’s future under Rivadulla’s leadership looks promising as the company continues to adapt and thrive in the competitive aquaculture nutrition industry.
