Brazilian poultry industry sees growth in exports for 2024

BRAZIL – The Brazilian poultry sector has reached a record-high export volume of 5.294 million metric tons (MT) in 2024, a 3% increase from the 5.130 million MT exported in 2023.

This data comes from the latest report by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

Revenue generated by poultry exports rose by 1.3% year-over-year, amounting to US$9.928 billion in total.

Monthly exports averaged over 440,000 MT, and forecasts for 2025 suggest even larger volumes, which could potentially lead to higher earnings for companies involved in poultry exports.

Export Destinations

Countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan continue to dominate the list of destinations for Brazil’s chicken meat exports.

Mexico has gained significant ground, entering the top 10 export destinations in recent years.

In 2024, Mexico’s chicken meat imports from Brazil grew by 22.6%, reaching 212,500 MT, making it the eighth-largest buyer.

Eggs and poultry genetics

While chicken meat exports reached historic levels, the performance in eggs and poultry genetics showed varied outcomes.

Egg exports declined sharply in 2024, with Brazil shipping 18,469 MT—a drop of 27.3% compared to 2023.

Chile emerged as the largest importer of Brazilian eggs, receiving 6,871 MT. This figure represents a 141.4% increase in Chile’s imports from the previous year.

Conversely, the poultry genetics sector experienced modest growth. Brazil exported 27,229 MT of one-day-old chicks and fertile eggs in 2024, an increase of 2.8% compared to 2023.

Mexico maintained its position as the primary importer of poultry genetics, receiving 9,378 MT. However, this represents a 30.6% decline from 2023.

Other notable importers included Venezuela and Paraguay, which imported 3,909 MT and 2,634 MT, respectively.

Venezuelan imports experienced a sharp increase of over 500% compared to 2023.

The Brazilian poultry industry remains a significant contributor to the global market, with 2024 marking another year of milestones and challenges across different product categories.
