BRF certifies global operations, expands international presence

BRAZIL – Brazilian food processing company BRF has announced the early completion of its pledge to certify all manufacturing units in animal welfare protocols by 2025.

The company achieved this goal a year ahead of schedule with the certification of its Turkey operations.

This follows BRF’s success in Brazil, where all facilities were certified in 2023.

The certifications were conducted under the guidelines of the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) and the National Chicken Council (NCC).

The company views this milestone as a strategic move to enhance sustainability in its production chain while ensuring ethical practices.

BRF attributed the achievement to collaborations with integrated producers, adherence to strict protocols, and continuous training initiatives.

In addition to this milestone, BRF has made significant international investments in 2024.

The company finalized the acquisition of a processing plant in China’s Henan province for US$92 million.

This investment includes the purchase of the facility, improvements to infrastructure, and doubling the plant’s production capacity from 30,000 to 60,000 metric tons annually.

The expanded operations are expected to begin in early 2025, creating approximately 850 jobs.

Henan’s central location positions the plant to serve as a key export hub with improved logistical capabilities for international markets.

In Saudi Arabia, BRF entered a partnership with the Halal Products Development Company (HPDC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The collaboration includes a US$84.3 million investment in Addoha Poultry Company to support poultry production.

The venture aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which focuses on diversifying the economy and improving food security.

Operating under the name BRF Arabia, the joint enterprise will cater to growing regional demand for halal-certified food products.

Furthermore, BRF and Marfrig Global Foods are preparing to launch BRF’s subsidiary, Sadia, into the international beef market starting January 2025.

Sadia, a leading frozen food producer and one of Brazil’s primary meat exporters, has maintained a strong presence in the Middle East for over 50 years.

The move seeks to capitalize on Sadia’s established reputation for halal chicken products while introducing beef exports to the region.
