UK –  Browns Food Group has acquired AK Stoddart, a prominent beef producer based in Scotland.

This acquisition marks a significant investment by Browns, described as a “multi-million-pound” initiative aimed at solidifying its position as Scotland’s largest privately-owned meat business.

The infusion of funds is earmarked to enhance processing capabilities and expand export potential, with the goal of achieving a turnover of £300 million (US$380M), with potential to grow to £500 million (US$633M) through committed investment.

Founded in 2015, AK Stoddart has been privately owned, with shareholders including board members Ton Christiaanse and Grant Moir.

Following the acquisition, Moir retains equity in the business, highlighting continuity amidst the change in ownership.

Julie Fancourt, AK Stoddart’s finance director and a remaining shareholder, emphasized the importance of finding a buyer aligned with their values and committed to supporting the Scottish agricultural community.

Grant Moir expressed confidence in Browns as the right strategic partner, foreseeing stability and growth opportunities for AK Stoddart under new ownership.

Based in Dumfriesshire, Browns Food Group operates seven manufacturing sites across the UK, specializing in a range of cooked meats, salmon, and poultry products for both retail and foodservice sectors across Europe.

Their portfolio includes well-known brands like Ocean Catch seafood, Hall’s meats, and Wee Willie Winkie sausages.

AK Stoddart, headquartered in Ayrshire and West Lothian, is renowned for supplying bone-in and boxed Aberdeen Angus beef globally, alongside minced and diced beef under its own brand and private labels.

The acquisition by Browns is expected to leverage AK Stoddart’s expertise in premium beef products with Browns’ extensive market reach and operational capabilities.
