AFRICA – Bühler Southern Africa, a subsidiary of the food equipment supplier, is set to prioritize local supply chain improvements in the food processing and agribusiness sectors in 2025.
Marco Sutter, the company’s Managing Director, stated that Bühler’s strategy for Africa will center on delivering tailored solutions to local challenges while promoting growth and sustainability.
The company sees Africa as a strong candidate for developing manufacturing hubs and robust food systems, particularly due to its growing youthful population.
Bühler is committed to sustainability, with plans to cut energy and water usage by 50% in its customers’ value chains by 2025, according to Sutter.
The company also acknowledged that 2024 posed challenges, including political instability due to elections, rising steel prices, and limited foreign exchange access.
Despite these setbacks, Sutter emphasized that Bühler continued to innovate and deliver customer-focused solutions, helping the company maintain its momentum.
Bühler allocates 5% of its annual revenue to research and development to drive advancements in food and agribusiness technology, setting it apart from its competitors.
Francois Knoetze, the company’s Head of Manufacturing, revealed that Bühler had made several upgrades in 2024, including new racking systems, compressors, and welding machines.
These enhancements, Knoetze explained, improve production efficiency and shorten lead times, benefiting Bühler’s clients and boosting its growth potential.
Sutter also mentioned that the company would focus on community empowerment initiatives, including partnerships with MathU and the Global Learning Festival.
In addition, Bühler is investing in training and internship programs to foster the next generation of innovators, building on the success of its Student Career Day Expo.
In recent news, Bühler has acquired innovative puffing technology from CEREX, a Swiss machinery manufacturer, to expand its capabilities in the food, pet food, and feed industries.
The technology enables Bühler to meet the growing demand for healthier and diverse food options by producing a range of snacks, cereals, and dairy products.
The puffing process involves applying heat and pressure to raw materials, creating lighter, crispier products with increased volume and porosity.
