CANADA – McCain Foods, a Canadian multinational frozen food company, has completed the acquisition of Irish plant-based frozen food manufacturer Strong Roots, an Irish plant-based frozen food manufacturer, marking the culmination of a strategic partnership that began in 2021 with a $55 million investment.
Strong Roots is a company that specializes in simple, real food that prioritizes environmental sustainability and human well-being – it boasts a diverse range of vegetable-centric dishes, spanning meals, sides, and snacks.
This acquisition, underpinned by McCain’s ongoing commitment to planet-friendly fare, positions the company to broaden its portfolio with healthier, more sustainable options.
McCain aims to offer consumers with greater access to high-quality, eco-friendly food choices through this collaboration.
Jillian Moffatt, regional president of McCain GB and Ireland, underscores the significance of this investment, emphasizing its role in expanding McCain’s lineup of environmentally conscious offerings.
“This investment shows McCain’s commitment to planet-friendly food, enabling us to extend our portfolio of healthier options that are grown, processed, and shipped sustainably. With a vision and values aligned to McCain’s, we are excited to continue our journey to scale the Strong Roots brand globally,” he said.
Peter Dawe, chief growth and strategy officer at McCain Foods, highlights the partnership’s evolution since its inception in 2021, emphasizing the shared ambition to cater to evolving consumer preferences.
“We are excited to help further accelerate growth, bringing natural, simple meals and ingredients to even more customers in retail and food service markets,” he added.
Under the leadership of CEO Charlotte Turton, Strong Roots will continue to operate as a distinct business entity, with Dennigan collaborating closely with the team to drive ongoing portfolio innovation and brand expansion.
