USA – Minnesota-based multinational food company has been honored with five 2025 Edison Awards, recognising the company’s bold innovations that are shaping the future of food and agriculture.
The Edison Awards, named after inventor Thomas Edison, celebrate the best in innovation, recognising products and teams that solve global challenges, shape markets and inspire change.
The 2025 award-winning innovations reflecting Cargill’s commitment to shaping the future of food and agriculture include Cargill Natural Flavors, a proprietary blend of natural antioxidants that extends the shelf life of ground beef by up to five days, surpassing current solutions while minimising food waste and increasing retail flexibility.
The company was also awarded for their Winter Camelina for Biofuels, a cold-climate oilseed grown between seasons like a cover crop. It offers farmers new income while supplying low-carbon fuel and feed.
Cultivated Grade Media a customisable, more affordable cell culture media designed to help emerging protein technologies scale by reducing a significant cost barrier was also awarded. Developed with input from top start-ups, it’s a purpose-built solution supporting the future of diversified protein.
Cargill Currents was also recognised. The joint initiative between Cargill and Global Water Challenge tackles water challenges by tailoring solutions to address local needs.
REVEAL Layers was also awarded. This first-of-its-kind technology accurately and noninvasively measures laying hens’ body composition on-site.
Florian Schattenmann, Cargill’s chief technology officer, said, “These awards reflect the passion, collaboration and purpose that drive our teams to reimagine what’s possible, whether improving global nutrition, reducing food waste or supporting farmer livelihoods.

Cargill Honored with 2024 BIG Awards
The news comes after the company was recognised for its commitment to sustainability, earning prestigious accolades in the 2024 BIG Sustainability Awards.
The Business Intelligence Group (BIG) awarded Cargill the Sustainability Leadership Award and the Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award, acknowledging its impactful contributions to environmental stewardship within the food and agriculture industry.
As a major player in global food production, Cargill is leading efforts to address critical issues such as supply chain resilience, climate change, and food security.
The company’s approach involves collaborating with various stakeholders—including farmers, industry experts, academic institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and policymakers—to foster a more sustainable agricultural sector.
