BELGIUM – Cargill has announced a significant development in sustainable energy with the trial of its Cargill® Bio100 biodiesel at a construction site in Ghent, Belgium.
Algemene Bouw Maes nv is currently utilizing this innovative waste-derived biodiesel to power a generator, which in turn charges a battery used across the site.
This new fuel source has led to a remarkable decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a reduction of more than 90% compared to conventional fossil diesel.
This news comes on the heels of Cargill’s recent developments – the company is set to undergo a significant restructuring, according to an internal memo obtained by Reuters and corroborated by two anonymous sources within the company.
The overhaul will consolidate the company’s current five operational units into three distinct divisions.
This move is aimed at addressing the economic challenges facing the industry, including falling prices for essential commodity crops and squeezed profit margins in crop processing.
The internal communication outlines the company’s strategy to reduce operational costs and streamline capital investments in response to these economic strains.
Brian Sykes, CEO of Cargill, has emphasized the importance of this restructuring, noting that recent performance trends and shifting market conditions have made the overhaul imperative.
Founded in Minnesota in 1865, Cargill has been a leading supplier of meat and agricultural products for over a century.
The planned reorganization will create three new divisions: Food, Ag & Trading, and a Specialized Portfolio focusing on animal nutrition and health.
The Food division will combine the Food & Bio and Protein & Salt teams, while Cargill Risk Management and Metals will be incorporated into the Ag & Trading division.
