Carlsberg increases ownership in Cambodian brewer to 75%

INDIA – Carlsberg, one of the leading brewery groups in the world, has increased its ownership in the Cambodian brewer Cambrew Limited (Cambrew) by 25% and as a result, the Carlsberg Group now owns 75% of Cambrew.

According to the company, Cambrew is among the largest brewers in Cambodia.

Its largest beer brand – the iconic Angkor Premium Beer with its well-known tagline ‟Our Country, Our Beer″ – is a popular brand among Cambodian consumers.

In addition, Cambrew produces and bottles Pepsi for the Cambodian market.

Over the past 26 years, the Carlsberg Group’s partner in Cambrew has been instrumental in building up Cambrew and the Angkor Premium Beer brand to their current positions, and the partner will retain a 25% ownership stake.

“The increased ownership of Cambrew is in line with our strategic priority of growing our business in Asia.

The transaction gives us management control of the business in a beer market that offers appealing long-term growth opportunities.

By driving the iconic Angkor Premium Beer brand, together with our international premium portfolio and a successful soft drinks business, we’re well positioned to capture the growth opportunities in Cambodia,” said CEO Cees ’t Hart.

Carlsberg also recently established a new brewery in Karnataka, India with the aims to further strengthen its capacity and foothold in the southern region, reinforcing its commitment to India and strengthening its increasing footprint in the country.

The company added that the establishment of this new brewery is an aspirational step to further strengthen Carlsberg India’s significant growth opportunity in the state.

While currently being the 3rd largest player in the Indian beer market, the development was a significant move towards Carlsberg India’s journey of further strengthening its position in the region while contributing positively to the local communities.

The brewery, with a green area of over 48,000 square meters, is well equipped with efficient and environment friendly facilities for Rain Water Harvesting and Waste water management.
