NIGERIA – Champion Breweries Plc, a producer and marketer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in Nigeria has appointed Mr Georgios I. Polymenakos as its new Managing Director effective January 6, 2020.
The appointment follows the resignation of Mr Patrick Ejidoh as Managing Director, who reached retirement age after 32 years of an illustrious career with Nigerian Breweries Plc.
Mr Ejidoh is credited with ushering the company into the path of growth and profitability.
According to a statement signed by the company’s chairman, Dr. Elijah Akpan, said that Mr Polymenakos was until October 2019 the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC), bottlers of Coca-Cola products in Nigeria and a subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCHBC).
Mr. Polymenakos’s career in Marketing and Leadership spans over 21 years. He began his career in 1998 as a merchandiser under the Graduate Trainee Programme of Coca-Cola Hellenic in Greece and quickly rose to becoming a Channel Manager.
In 2003, he moved to Chipita, an innovative snacks and confectionery company, as Commercial Development Manager for Greece and grew to the position of Country Manager in Russia, overseeing all functions of the company.
George returned to Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company in 2011, as Regional General Manager for the North West Region and subsequently Regional General Manager for Moscow, the biggest business unit in Russia.
In Moscow, he drove leadership of the Non-Alcoholic Ready to Drink market segment for the first time, delivering record market shares.
He successfully led numerous change management projects and infrastructure optimization that saw him being appointed MB of NBC in 2016.
Polymenakos holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wales.
Champion Breweries Plc is an established brewery in Nigeria manufacturing Champion Lager Beer and Champ Malta as well as a selection on non-alcoholic beverages.
The company also brews and packages products under contract to Nigerian Breweries Plc. The main brands in its product portfolio are Champion Lager Beer and Champ Malta.
