ZAMBIA – MEI MEI Chinese Company is expected to invest over US$50 million in the Dola Hill Shopping Mall, Wholesale City and Amusement Park in Ndola next to Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge, who officiated at the ground breaking ceremony on Monday, has commended the Chinese firm for undertaking such a development in Zambia.
“This only goes to show that development should not only be concentrated on Lusaka but other parts of Zambia too. The PF government attaches great importance to such kind of development,” Mr Musenge said.
He said the construction of the entire park would benefit more Zambians because more than 1,500 jobs would be created during the construction stage, while 500 permanent jobs would be created when the place becomes fully operational.
“This gives us hope that more jobs are going to be created,” Mr Musenge said.
He was happy that the first phase of the complex, which started in April this year, would be commissioned next month.
And Mei Mei managing director Jacky Gao said the first phase has so far gobbled US$8.5 million in the last six months.
He said the complex, which will be the first of its kind in Zambia, will also have a hotel that will cater for people on the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces, the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo and other parts of Zambia.
And Sherwood Greene Property manager Chileshe Musonda explained that the complex would be constructed in five phases.
He said each phase would take 18 months to be completed.
